This Privacy Policy explains what personal information SpicePan collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. We collect only what the site genuinely needs.

Information we collect

  • Information you give us – the name and email address you provide when you comment, subscribe to the newsletter, send us a message, or submit a recipe question.
  • Technical information – your IP address, browser and device type, referring page, and the pages you request. This arrives automatically through our server logs and analytics.
  • Cookies and similar technologies – set out in detail in our Cookie Policy.

Why we process it

We use your information to operate and maintain the site, to reply to messages, to send the newsletter where you have explicitly asked for it, to moderate comments, to understand which recipes and blends readers actually make, and to serve the advertising that funds our testing. Our lawful bases are consent for email marketing and non-essential cookies, legitimate interest for security logging and aggregate analytics, and contractual necessity where you have asked us to provide something.

Advertising and third parties

SpicePan displays advertising from third-party ad networks and ad-tech companies. These partners may use cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads relevant to your interests, cap frequency, and measure performance. In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, ad targeting cookies load only after you consent; in other regions interest-based advertising may run on a legitimate-interest basis, and an opt-out is available as described below.

We may share information with our web host, our email service provider, our analytics provider, and, where legally required, with competent authorities or as part of a business transfer.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can request access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, a portable copy of the data you gave us, and you can object to processing or withdraw consent at any time. Under the CCPA and similar US state laws you can request to know what categories we collect, request deletion, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal data; ad-tech sharing is what the opt-out refers to.

To exercise any right, email [email protected]. We respond within thirty days. If you are in the EU or UK you may also lodge a complaint with your national data-protection authority.

Retention and security

Comment records are kept while the thread remains useful to readers. Newsletter data is deleted within thirty days of an unsubscribe. Server logs roll on the retention window set by our host. Emails you send us are kept while the thread remains relevant. Admin access is restricted, passwords are stored hashed, and the whole site is served over HTTPS.

Children

SpicePan is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has sent us data, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes

We update this page when our practices change; the revision date appears at the bottom. Continuing to use the site after an update means the revised policy applies.
